Founded by the visionary Shauntae Meadows, Curvy in Cleveland is more than just a brand—it’s a celebration of individuality and self-love. Growing up in the vibrant city of Cleveland, Shauntae faced the challenges of societal beauty standards head-on, enduring body shaming and judgmental remarks. However, instead of conforming to these norms, she embraced her uniqueness and embarked on a journey to redefine beauty on her own terms.

During her high school years at Jane Addams Business Career Center, Shauntae defied expectations by excelling in various activities, including winning homecoming court twice, participating in sports, and showcasing her passion for modeling. Inspired by plus-size models like Toccara Jones on “America’s Next Top Model,” Shauntae found her calling in the world of fashion and began modeling at local fashion shows while using social media to amplify her voice.

Shauntae quickly realized the lack of representation in the industry. Determined to fill this void, she used her college years at the University of Toledo to amplify her voice on social media and connect with people from around the world who shared her experiences. She attended body-positive events to meet other like-minded individuals and continued to advocate for body positivity.

After graduating and returning to Cleveland, Shauntae noticed a lack of representation in her own community for individuals like herself. Determined to fill this void, she began hosting meetups with fellow Instagram followers and collaborating with like-minded individuals to create a space that embraced diversity in all its forms. What started as a blog for plus-size women evolved into Curvy in Cleveland LLC in 2017, with a mission to empower individuals of all genders and sizes to feel confident and celebrated.

Her dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity culminated in the creation of Curvy in Cleveland, a brand that has since been sold in three local stores and continues to host in-person events throughout the year. Each item is ethically made with love by Shauntae herself, representing a commitment to inclusivity and body positivity. Curvy in Cleveland also utilizes its resources to help other small businesses and influencers monetize their platforms, fostering a community of support and empowerment. Through community involvement and advocacy, Curvy in Cleveland strives to change the narrative around beauty and body image, creating a world where everyone feels seen, accepted, and celebrated for who they are.
